They were brutal - but they enforce the rules selectively the way FIFA tells them to.
The tournament was a farce.
I didn't see any red cards for diving or fake injuries, but I saw tons of diving and fake injuries.
Some very partisan offside decisions.
Way too many penalties, even for nonsense like involuntary handballs and shirt-pulling. Referees overly influenced by home crowds.
In the old days, players just accepted fouling as part of the game and got on with it, they didn't roll around hysterically.
It proved we need video refereeing with goalmouth cams and replays. Also the sin bin proposal is worth exploring.

This category should be remove, 2006 FIFA World Cup is over and won't come back anymore, It's the past. May that you're still living the times when you were born, back to the present time. I don't understand people who live regretting, what about if I had done this instead of that. What about if France had won instead of Italy? I don't get it, in the history the records are, you cannot change them. Just live as good as it takes. Who cares about the referees. are you going to change their minds in a given situation of the game?

Some are very bad.
But the rest turned out very bad because the organising committee stuck their nose in once too often to try to tell referees how to run a game.
After a flurry of yellows and reds in the opening few games, notice that the referees started to close one eye on things?

Korea could've beat Switzerland, but the referee gave Switzerland too many favors, since the FIFA co. is in Switzerland and the president is Swiss. Many people don't trust that referee. They blame him, not the Korea soccer coach, because they know that Korea coach became the next Hiddink
