Louise shoots and kills the attacker, but only after the danger has likely passed, making any claim of defense somewhat shaky. The fact that she refused to drive through Texas, but rather went around it, made me think she had a problem with Texas law enforcement, and given the nature of the movie, yes, very likely sexual assault.

We never really know exactly, but i pretty much agree with kittie_nash that she was raped or was the victim of some sort of horrible sexual violation.
