Metformin is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels. Some people have developed a life-threatening condition called lactic acidosis while taking metformin. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these symptoms of lactic acidosis: weakness, increasing sleepiness, slow heart rate, cold feeling, muscle pain, shortness of breath, stomach pain, feeling light-headed, and fainting. Do not use metformin if you have kidney disease or congestive heart failure, or if you are in a state of diabetic ketoacidosis (call your doctor for treatment with insulinBefore taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have:
· liver disease; or
· a history of heart disease.

Good safe drug.....been using it for a long time here. Best place to get information is from your pharmacist about use during pregnancy though. The first 6 hour thing is probaby re: allergic reaction.

i take it for by diabetes and i never heard anything about the first 6 hours. i assume you are taking it as a fertility drug being you put this under trying to conceive. it may be that she is worried about your blood sugars getting to low. i have a friend that is taking it as a fertility drug and she hasn't had any problems. if it wasn't safe i don't think your doctor would have put you on it.
good luck

That is the generic for Glucophage. I've been on it. I had no problems. My doctor didn't mention any adverse effects either. What did he/she say might happen in the first 6 hours?
