Maybe you have a very stressful life or a lot on your mind? Try praying or thinking of a place that is very calm for you. Works for me. :)

I have this problem too. Try reading an easy but interesting book (you don't want to read anything that is too stimulating).
Try meditation or taking a hot shower
Also take some calcium before bed...it can help you fall asleep.
Finally, try writing down all the things you are thinking about.
Trust me, it does help!
Also, don't exercise within three or four hours of going to bed because it can stimulate you, and try to avoid watching TV before bed for the same reason.

Try to spend a half hour before bed just thinking of good thoughts.. As your trying to fall asleep your mind will drift though to whatever is bothering you.. Maybe try writing everything your thinking of down, this may help you relax enough to stop thinking about the bad stuff since it's written down.. I usually try to picture good things though for a while before bed and it helps me..

Try to get as much resolved as you can before you lay down to sleep.
As you go through your day think of something that makes you happy or a good memory. When you get home at night and lay down to sleep think of that memory again and concentrate on it until sleep takes you.
Listening to a calming CD is helpful.
Don't watch movies with a lot of voilence or any disturbing images before bedtime.

Try thinking about something you enjoy doing such as surfing or any other sport. Not athletic? Think about somewhere you would like to be. Perhaps sitting on a balcony of a mansion overlooking the ocean or some place like that.

I would suggest some form of meditation to quiet your brain. That worked for me.
Google Dr. Wayne Dyer. He has some excellent techniques for meditation.
Good luck, and good night.

i have complained about this for years, to my docs. really weird thoughts. i kept thinking about the days events and others in my past and what i could do to make the outcome better, even though the time had passed and i could not alther them.
docs put me on abien, trazadone and now on klonopin, to help me relax and sleep.
the klonopin seems to work quite well.
