in japan how do people get to know othet people, especially the opposite sex.
do they just go toward and introduce themself?
or that kind of thing is weird?

There's no simple answer! You can't generalise about 127 million people. Any possible way you can think of that people use to get to know each other; they use!
But if you want a really general answer, Japanese people tend to be a lot more self conscious in public, so they aren't as spontaneous as the average westerner is used to being.
