It's not overrated at all but isn't the best on a first viewing. It's actually quite a complex movie in comparison to other Python stuff but also contains some of their best comic inventions. Believe me, I wasn't too impressed the first time I saw it, but on repeat viewings, it just got better and better. It's packed full of stuff that takes a while to grow in your mind I think. John Cleese has never been funnier than his authoritive Centurion, Palin plays a few brilliant bit-parts and the whole serious point of the movie is brought across well - "Yes! We are all individuals!" Although me favourite bit is Cleese's classic "You're f**ing NICKED my old son!"

Not at all, although completed with good humour, it is a serious film and has strong points to make.

The scene where Brian addresses the crowd and tells them to live their own lives, they are individuals, etc mirrors Jesus's message.

Therefore if you believe the film is just overrated and daft means you do not understand the true message of Jesus.

It's the Monty Python troupe at their very best.

I think it may very well be one of the funniest films ever made.

Most critics agree that it's their crowning achievement.

Someone should change you into a newt !!

It's great. You have to watch it a couple of times and get in the mindset that it's supposed to be daft. That's the whole point.

Great comedy but you need to be into Monty Python to find it funny.

not at all-been watching it on and off since it came out and still makes me laugh out loud every time. Thought Holy Grail was totally over-rated though.
