when your labour is that far along the pain is no where near as bad as what it is when your contractions are less than a minute apart, there is a slight burning feeling because of the stretching, but all in all it is the least painful part of labour.
yes the vagina does stretch it has to, to allow the baby to come out, but a woman's body is a wonderful thing and the muscles in the vagina do go back into place, the stomach muscles on the other hand take a little longer, but if you do pelvic floor exercises as soon as you can after giving birth all will be fine and back to normal.
This really only applies to a vaginal birth not a c-section, but pelvic floor exercises are just as important regardless on which type of birth you have.

Well, when the baby is descending into the birth canal you are usually pushing. Pushing can be painful, but not as painful as the contractions that get you to that point. Actually, when I had my two babies (no drugs) I was really happy that I was finally at the end of my labor and I didn't mind the pain as much because I could push with the contractions instead of trying to breathe through them.

As far as the baby coming out the vagina, it does burn (they call it the ring of fire) and it be can hurt but there are nerves down there that get blocked as the baby's head presses on them. With my first I allowed them to cut to make more room for the head (episiotomy) and it tore from that cut down even further. I regretted it later when I was healing (lots of stitches). With my second they let the head come out more slowly and it was very controlled. I had 3 stitches and walked out of the hospital 3 hours later. Both times I was so focused on the job I had to do that I didn't noticed the pain that much.

Although a baby does stretch your vagina, the walls are full of muscles that are elastic and will return to almost normal in time. If you want to help them along you can exercise those muscles by doing Kegels. I can't say for sure if you will be 100% where you once were, but with Kegels it should be pretty close.

Good luck and I hope your delivery goes smoothly.

Contractions hurt like hell.
In contrast, the baby coming down the canal and coming out does not hurt. The baby's head pushes against your vaginal opening quite hard, and that numbs you down there.

Labor is the worst feeling in the world; however, pushing the baby out is a wonderful feeling, because it doesn't hurt, and because after hours of labor you know the end is finally here!

Yes, your vagina does get stretched. It never goes back to *exactly* the way it was. Instead of being perfectly smooth inside, it has a more wavy texture -- and supposedly some men say that they like the sensation quite a lot.

Whether or not the width of the opening goes back to "normal" depends on whether they sew you up, how well they sew you up, and how tightly they sew you up.

Whether the width of the canal goes back to "normal" depends on the number of births you've had.

If you find that you are unhappy with the amount of stretching, you can have surgery to fix it.

(Perhaps we should discuss what constitutes "normal"?
Is it "normal" for the body of an adult woman who has given birth to be the same as the body of a teenage girl who never gave birth?
If we use a teenage body as the ideal of femininity, then we are saying that the mojority of women are not feminine.
Stretch marks, saggier breasts, possibly varicose veins -- women get changed by pregnancy, and some things are permanent.
Wrinkles, white hair, wider waist -- we get older, and we change.
Perhaps we should embrace these changes as part of being a woman, instead of aspiring to an ideal that is relevant to only a few years out of a woman's life?)

It feels like very intense pressure on your pelvic floor as baby moves down. That's not too bad. Pushing actually feels pretty good because you are finally DOING something to get the baby here and you're concentrating on what you're doing. If you are working with your body, pushing feels pretty good.

The hardest part is actually the crowning, when baby's head is just about to come out through the cervix. This part kind of burns, but it only lasts a couple of minutes so if you keep that in mind you can work through it pretty easily.

Do Kegels prior to the birth and then afterwards and this will help you condition and tighten up all the muscles in that area.

Yes it does stretch your vagina. When the baby s head is coming out, the doctor ususally cuts your vagina down to the anal area to get the babys head to come out easy. They do sew your vagina back up, it all depends on the doctor and the woman. I have heard from women that sex is not the same. Plus the stress of taking care of the baby. Good Luck!

You don't feel the baby coming down the canal at all, in fact, you are so HAPPY they are in the canal because it means that the last 10 hours of hell will finally be over...

The painful part is the LABOR...

Think of it this way. If someone was cutting your arm off (labor) do you think you feel a pin prick going on?

Your vagina will be similar to the way it was before about a year after birth.

Do kegels if you're concerned, that will keep ya tight.

Yes, it hurts because of contractions. The cervix dilates, it is not really about stretching the vagina. And it does go back like it was before.

Of course it hurts, but it's just one day of pain and you have the rest of your life with a wonderful baby. Don't worry about it, you forget the pain so quickly, and yes, your body will return to normal in time. Good luck!
