If the heat is "unbearable" then none of the simplest cooling methods will likely work for you (making sure all windows are closed and covered during daylight hours, and opening them at night to cool, simple fans, etc).

If you buy an air conditioning unit of a large enough size, (8,000 BTU or larger) you can buy one window unit and cool the entire apartment. To save money, buy one unit and fit it to a bedroom window, then only cool your bedroom, keeping your bedroom closed off from the best of the apartment.

Best of luck.

I used to have the same problem.. even if i had one fan in the room leave it on when you are not in the room and it will cool it off for when you are in the room..If you have curtains or blinds keep them up or the curtains open.. also if you have a computer turn it off at night that can generate a lot of heat along with electronics.. carpeting can also make a room warmer so maybe even taking out carpet but that may not be an option for you but it might work

As a interior designer,i think i will be able to help u...
1. Open a window and insert a glass plane on the top of the window which angle at 45 deg in order to trap high speed wind from top,at least 2 window is needed to improve the ventilation of the room.

2. A ceiling fan can be installed in the room.

3. U can just install AC in ur main hall and fans on ur other rooms.

4. Open a sky roof window facing the side where the wind blow.

5. Grow some interior plants and a water feature.

6. Install a metal wall.

Hope some of my humble advice will help u in any other ways...

Open all the windows very early in the morning (before the sun is up) and then close all of them before you feel the heat of the day. Get nice and thick curtains to block out all the sunlight and put on all the fans. You can try putting water infront of the fan to cool the room even more. (if you can, leave the fridge door open). Good luck!!

Put a false ceiling to reduce heat input.
Paint the walls in white colour to reflect heat.
In kitchen install chimney to throw heat out of the room.
A C of 1ton ( 3 nos) will be sufficient

If the windows are not dual pane I suggest adding a tinting material to help reflect heat away. Adding out side shades help. Make sure there is adequate insulation above you and a possible attic fan.

keep cool, man - attitude is what counts!

next - you still suffering from Heat!

try this-
can you reach your roof top; (without falling from there..)
then , there is a solution;
you buy - 6" - 8" height earthen pots ( meant for plants etc);
sufficient to cover your roof top, when layed in single layer up-side down;

lay it that way;
"natural heat convection works wonders";
will cool your room and room-mate as well;

if it doesn't ---------
blame it to heat convection Professor who is in Heaven having some cool-fun..............

still....... bothered,
turn them to right direction; plant some sapellings;
water them ; they would keep you cool;

( seriously speaking it has worked wonders, "up-side down funda" ; when i was in IISc bangalore)

pls report benefits, to others;
(for i am convinced)

many-ques!!!

Better solution is to have false ceiling that will bring down considerable amount of heat. You can check for painting and property related tips from ongaia.com

Open a window and turn your fan so it blows outward. The coolest air in the building will find its way into your rooms.

colour external side of wall in white, use tinted glass to windows and curtains white coloured on external side & dark inner ( room) side that will keep your rooms cooler with other accessaries like chimany in kichen, ventilatore on roof top ( as on industrial sheds).
