Both. I just write whatever that comes in my mind... everything -- my worry, my anger, my fantasy, my experience, my curiosity, my sadness, my happiness -- no secrets at all because I truly believe no one will ever be able to read it but myself. I'm totally stripped to the bone with my journal.
I address myself mostly when I'm really down or perhaps when there's something I did that I really regret. Then I address my journal as another person when I write about my experiences or thoughts or fantasies, etc.
When I'm totally bored, I read what I wrote, especially the ones that could be similar or related to my current mood or experience or situation.
Yeah... works well with me.

I begin by being thankful for my day, whether I am or not, that is my beginning and the truth always comes out by the time I am finished by the reflections of my feelings and attitude as I am writing. I always mention a couple of the goals I had for the day and whether I was able to do what I'd hoped to do and what I am looking forward to for the following day or what my dreams and inspiration is for that time and place. Thanks for asking this question. It was good to reflect on what I actually do and what others shared will be helpful too. Great QUESTION>)

Yes i do address myself. Because I am afraid that someone else read those stuff and harm my privacy, I never write everything explicitly.

I just log down what I did that day and how it made me feel. Years later, I like to browse through and remember those times.

I usually date it, then I write about the days events. Maybe how I am feeling, and sometimes the weather.
