The word dissapointed is when you are upset that something hasn't gone exactly as planned. Appointed is when you are told to do a job. How did these words come to mean what they mean and why isn't unappointed the same as disssapointed?

Good observation, the same goes with the word social.... unsocial and antisocial.

Dissapointed is not the exact opposite of Appointed. Your boss will either say you are appointed or you are dropped/not appointed.

because they rhyme..
rhyming words mean- words that rhyme but different in spelling and meaning
