Turbochargers do not 'add' horsepower. It is much more accurate to say that a given turbocharger supports a certain amount of horsepower, based on its cfm rating. To realize this horsepower, supporting intake, exhaust, and fuel modifications are required.
To estimate the amount of supported horsepower, divide the turbo's cfm rating by 1.345.
Also important is when the turbo can be spooled on a certain engine. It is unlikely that your GMC engine can spool an extremely large turbo within its available RPM range. To verify this, check the turbo's compressor map, and plot your engine's volumetric line across the map.
Additionally, a high horsepower goal will require clutch, transmission, suspension, and other modifications.
