I assume you are talking about the longevity of peoples in the bible.
One theory that there is some difference in the concept of time, perhaps that months were years or the year was shorter as some others above have said.
I thought about genetic damage causing aging, perhaps there was lower incidental radiation then. It is interesting that the lifespan decreased 'after' the flood, it was written that before the flood it did not rain and there was a constant mist surrounding anything, my idea is that after the flood the sky cleared allowing more solar and cosmic radiation to reach human bodies.
Perhaps a comet are meteor carrying heavy metals crashed into the earth at some stage pricipitating the atmosphere and spreading rare earth elements across the surface that previously were absent.
Some plants and animals can now live for more than 200 years.
Just an thought.

Biblical scholars believe that the earth before the flood was totally covered with clouds. Therefore the clouds protected people from uv rays and such, giving them a longer life span. But then again you have to believe in the mythology of the Bible.

Adam and Eve were created perfect. Therefore, their descendants, though sinful, were much closer to perfection. In general, each generation lived a shorter span than the one before. There were fewer contaminants, next to no pollution and genetic diseases would not yet have a huge hold on humanity.

first of all, they did not have a calendar of 365 days, therefore their year was much shorter than ours. over time, that "gap" in the year's length, with regard to our own, grows dramatically.
secondly, since there were no pollutants, no "hard" alcohol, people did not smoke and other factors, their life span could have been extended, beyond ours.
and then again, it could be that God allowed a much longer lifespan, so that the could populate the earth. now that we have, we don't need to live quite so long?

I think that it might be a difference in measuring time, along with a bit of truth streaching (heaven forbid that I ever say the Bible was not accurate. AGAIN).
One interesting point. Did you ever notice that all the really long lives were before the Flood?

I think it's possible. Maybe not 969 years, but possibly longer than we would ever expect today. As others have said, pollution is a possible factor, but I'd say--since our pollution levels were almost nil before the Industrial Revolution--an isolated group of people who hadn't encountered foreign diseases might be a better way of looking at it.

We must consider about that cell developing of our (human) body is not faster than our circumstance (environment and food) development. Cell can not make fast effort on this change even our mind and act can.
Some examples we can see, people who live in old life style will live much longer than modern life style. People who live in county may be longer than us.

if you think about it - the gregorian calender did not come about until 1582, so anything before that was measured in time different than what we measure it in. most likely they had a different concept of years than we do or the authors of the bible were trying to make a point that good people live longer.

back then they were on a different thing until a group of them pissed off God and he said in Deuteronomy I will not contend with man forever and I make his years 120. Now the max is 120

Either the history isn't true or the Earth was just in better shape back then free of a lot of the pollution and crap we put it into it.
