this question really could do with being clearer we need to know what you want to ask her but in the long run if you feel unable then writting a letter is always easier as you can write down and explain things easier in a letter

i see this question in 2 ways with you saying 20 yrs of paranoia are you suggesting that she had an affair or you believe the kids are your neighbours or tat you fancy this person either way put it in a letter as you will get to explain more and why you feel the way you do

hope this helps

don't send a letter, cos that is odd. Just ask her casually, do you fancy going to the pictures one night, there is a really good film I would like to go and see but obviously mention a film that is not suitable for kids otherwise she might think you mean all of you with the kids as well. Then after the film, ask her if she fancies going for some food.

Ask her. Sending a letter is weird if she lives next door and your kids play with each other.

What are you talking about? Asking her out.
How about go outside with the kids when they're playing together and when she's out there and strike up some easy conversation. Give it lots of time for her to trust you and get to know you and feel comfortable around you. Then ask her to dinner or a walk or a picnic or whatever.

Don't send a letter.

If you're not talking about asking her out, then I have no clue as to what you are talking about!

If you're going to ask what I think you're going to ask: Don't ever put something like that in writing! Paper and even e-mails tend to get into the wrong hands.

What are you going to ask her? If you're going to ask her out, just ask. If you're asking her to keep the noise down or something, maybe a polite note.

Just hand her a nice bunch of flowers and then you will be morally forced to pose the question.

why don't you send one of your mates round there to pull her hair and say 'my mate fancies you' but I doubt that would work

I would personally wait till she brings her kid round to play with urs then invitet her in for a coffe.. break the ice a bit
