There is no cut-and-dried answer to this question, so my answer is that it would be extremely rare.
In most cases, one or the other ends up caring TOO much, and winds up DEVASTATED that the other really only DID want to remain "just friends", and nothing more, ever. Once they realize there won't ever be a future there with that person, it's often too painful to carry on with the "friendship", as if nothing's changed.
Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule - but most of the time, I would say either he OR she is secretly (or not-so-secretly) IN LOVE with their "best friend"!

Yes,they can. This sort of relationship called friendship can last till your death if there is mutual understanding between friends and good safety. They should be friends and only friends and they can be friends till the end of their lives. There is nothing wrong in a girl and boy becoming friends. It's actually great fun and a change.

Yes, I believe this possible as long as they do not perceive each other as "boy & girl" but as 2 human beings. Once that changes, ane one of the develops deeper feelings then, the friendship will be gone - but it still is very possible.

I don't think so. I wish I could say yes, but if you are that close... so close you remain life long friends then maybe you should marry that person.

WHEN IT COMES TO A GIRL - she always want her hbby as a friend, but a man will call a girl his friend till he is married or had sex, after which he will not take her as a friend, but patner, but in girls cases, they always want to keep things secret, even if she is having sex, affair, she tends and want to keep it a secret ( always ). so a girl can be friends for life ( as their mentality is like that- she is made such since birth, that she forgets her parents in one day after marriage, so can forget anything ) but a male - CAN'T E FRIENDS FOREVER ( he actually takes his girl friend as his propert - and he has no experience of leaving his close ones - so he can't forget easily and goes mad if it is a question of leaving )

"Between men and women there is no friendship possible. There is passion, enmity, worship, love, but no friendship." (Oscar Wilde)
I found that out for myself. Even if it looks just like a great friendship, there is no way it could be just that. By the laws of nature, it is not possible.
But is kind of nice to think that there is just a wonderful friendship, it's comforting.

It can be done, but the friendship can be complicated when one friend seriously dates or even marries. In fact, if it goes as far as the friend marrying another person, the friendship is over. Spouses tend to be very jealous of opposite-sex friends of their husbands or wives. The married friend is going to chose his or her spouse over the friend almost every time.
