Are Americans aware there is life beyond thier own country? I have worked with hundreds of them and every time I bring up an international subject, news, music etc they look at me as if I had asked them to join a cult.

maybe you should widen your circle of friends..lol... but really most people are more concerned with current events within their own countries than in other countries..... though they may be aware of other news / events around the world these things do not affect them on a personal basis as do events within their country.

I think America is more aware of whats going on in the world than you give us credit for after all we at one time came from somewhere else. Some of us have been here longer than others but most of us at one time or another came from somewhere else. Although I am part American Indian and my family has been here for a long time. America has done alot for the world fought and died in wars for other countries given so much money and aid to so many countries it's funny how fast other countries forget. We don't do that to say look how great we are. We do it because we have a big heart and it is the right thing to do. Don't get me wrong I don't approve of everything our government has done but I am sure if we dig deep enough into most governments we are going to find some wrong doings. I don't think your statement fits all Americans.

Some do, a lot don't.
I live in New Zealand and I heard from a school teacher who has also worked in the states that when an American looks at the world map they point to USA and say, look there we are, such a big country we are, and when a New Zealander look at the world map they point to the rest of the world an point out what a big world we live in and how many places there are to get to see.

I've been to America a few times, and part of the problem is that their News programmes are primarily about their own country. International news is limited, in my experience.

I found it frustrating not being able to find out what was going on at home. I had to go online to British news sites.

American's are prideful and don't care about other country's because we are the best, but, I will have to say that American's are ignorant arrogant fools and believe anything they hear by the media and other dems and libs, no matter how ridiculous.
I've lived in Argentina and since then my eyes have been open to more of a world out there. There's more out there than just the US of A.

Been there. Worn the sackcloth and ashes.
And no, they don't, in the majority that is. Which also is the reason why they can't understand Europeans' reaction to their recent endeavours to add to their empire. Even too many of the ones who have found their way abroad think that all Europeans are like Tony Blair and can't wait to join the US as new states. They are quite bewildered when they find out what most of us really think, poor chicks.

I know loads of savvy Americans and they're all pretty globally aware. I've got family there and it's easy for us to forget that America is a huge place in itself and having an awareness of the whole of the USA is a feat in itself.

I do realise that american tourists are kinda rude at times. I've never been to america, but some of them act really badly in other countries, which i believe, is not how they would usually act if they were in america. Some just think that they r more superior than others i guess. But not everyone is tt ignorant. There are nice ppl too im sure. But they are just outnumbered nowdays.

yes of course - i can sum it up for you buddy. it is a matter of importance.

do you really care what is going on half way around the globe from you when your back yard is on fire.

Hey....I have something right here to deal with or my as$ is on fire or should I maybe focus on whats going on somewhere much more distant.....how exotic.

Maybe you could not put this together on your own, which would show a limited mental capacity or an obvious bias.

get over it...wake up - how many average people do you really think have the means to take an interest in international affairs.?

No they seem to think the out side world does not exist, even when you ask a question, they always assume that you are American and wonder what you are talking about and tell you that whatever you asked doesn't exist. You can tell by some of their questions how cluless they are, we know a lot about their country they no nothing about anywhere.
