Whats up with "Phoney Bliar"?
His own party has turned against him, his lies have been found out in spite of his background in law/double-speak, he backed the invasion of Iraq in spite of the biggest protest in world history, the NHS is a mess and being privatised through the back door, the UN told him to keep away in the israeli invasion of lebanon and he has even lost his "most favoured pet poodle" status with the US president (replaced by Angela Merkl).
Why is he so desperate?

I know that politics is a dirty game, but please don't use swear words or abuse (even against Tony Blair!). I am looking for reasons and opinions.
And no. I am not a socialist/liberal etc. I belong to the group of half the voters that think that none of them now are worth voting for. In the UK, only about a third of the voters that bother to turn up are needed to elect a government.

Dave T:
You may not have noticed but Tony Blair claims to be "socialist" and is the leader of the labour party that claims to believe in socialism.
Reid was a member of the Stirling University communist party when he was a student and was known as their "enforcer" for his radical activities.

David T: a typical lacking of knowledge american who doesnt use common sense, but goes by what the corrupt media in the usa says!
he doesnt want to leave because if he does then it will look like he agrees with everyone who said he isnt suitable anymore, and obviously this isnt good for him personaly. its very obvious, he pretends he knows what he is doing, he acts as if hes always in the right...makes up excuses for the mess he causes such as the wrongful war on iraq etc.
hes trying to prove hes perfect for the job and that hes doing the best for britain...but he knows we dnt want him anymore.
clearly the person who would replace him would still be much or less the same, good relations with the usa..follow their decision making etc etc! its politics!

Maybe because he feels that with the rise of Gordon Brown from the Tories is getting alot of popularity and the Parliament can always give Blair a vote of non-confidence, which means elections.

you and i would've thought that tony bliar, bliar, pants on fire would do the honourable thing and resign but no, we are stuck with his stupid incompetence and lack of guts to give into public opinion. and public opinion in this country is that we want tony bliar gone for good. i just don't believe a single word he says anymore; he's a joke and a moron. he is desperate to stay on and retain whatever he has left of his sorry and wasteful 9 years in power as the prime minister because he really believes that he could turn around the fortunes of his now-defunct labour party and that there are still a vast majority of people who still has trust in him, when it is so obvious to many of us, that guy is being delusional.
only he would be vain and arrogant enough to believe in his own hype and only he could be ignorant and shallow to truly think that he has achieved a lot in his position when he has indeed messed up britain and meddled with people's intergrity and thus, insulted our intelligence. it makes me seethe the fact that he and labour have achieved absolutely nothing in this country, since they were elected back in 1997.
his and george bush's justifications for going to war with iraq would most certainly be the most definable and memorable in history for all the wrong reasons. a war which has become never ending and will overtake world war 2, and a war where nobody really wins. both innocent iraqi civilians and british and american soldiers whose lives were sacrificed in exchange for lies, lies and even more damn lies and of whom were disgracefully forced to sell their souls to the devils, in bush and blair's that is. their credibilities are surely distorted as they are tainted and destroyed.
tony blair is a liability- not just for britain and the west, but for the world in general, alongside george w.bush. totally inept and out of touch that's who he is, as well as pathetic. i'd say we oust him by putting together our own petition and sending it to downing street.

How do we know that just because he is still there he really wants to stay there?
How do we know that others may not have hidden agendas that force him to feel he has to stay?
This could be:-
the financers of and "lenders" to the Labour Party
The Dick Cheney Gang
A certain mortgage company who lent too much
His agent, who reckons he will only cover his expenses if he stays in long enough for an extra chapter to his autobiography
Or his agent who tells him he has got to go out on an "up" or he won't make enough on his lecture tours to pay for his mortgages and other debts................................

It seems to be in fashion in the United Kingdom to hang on to a job to beat a previous record. It is a way to make the history books. If you cannot do it by your deeds, at least you will be known for the longest term in office.
The Queen is going for Queen Victoria's record on the throne, and Tony Blair wants to beat the record set by Margaret Thatcher.

Man, why do americans answer questions that they think they have the answer too?
And yes I'm refering to David T!!!!!!
You don't know Britain!!!!!!
And just to answer the question, Tony Blair is only holding power because he doesn't want to lose the power he has over the country.
He should leave now, everybody hates him, even his own party.

I didn't have great expectation when he became PM but it's saddening that he and his toadies effectively stole the party from its real supporters.
He's staying because if he loses it he loses power, kudos, lackies and a nice house off Whitehall. Remember Thatcher's tears?

I find it rather ironic that John Prescott of one of the 'gang' trying to get him out! Pot calling the kettle black?
It's more likely to be 'Mrs Blair' wanting to stay put & enjoy the glamorous life style.
