How many have heard of September 11, 1973? Is the overthrow and assassination by U.S. with the help of American backed juntas of Allende still remembered in Chile? Is Chile's 9/11 forgotten by most in Latin America? Why is 9/11 in New York away talked about, but 9/11 in Santiago in 1973 is never mentioned?

What you read Failed State by Noam Chomsky?

Yes we look away from suffering we cause because we're trying to make the world better I guess. I wasn't around in 1973 but I'm sure that isn't only 'crime' committed by US if you read the book.

Because Chile isn't a 1st class country like America. I think they are sitting somewhere in coach ordering beer in little plastic cups. While Americans are wallowing in self pity, about 9/11 and how terrible Jews and Islamizoids are, blaming them on hurricane craptrina.

That is strange.
Is it widely remembered in Chile?
News about Latin America has always been secondary to whatever is going on in the USA. Their media is very globally dominant.

Very good point. I think it's because the U.S. is more high profile than Chile. And who is to say that in Chile it was not just as recognized.

Because one happened 5 years ago and the other happened over 30 years ago?

Why do you think? I didn't learn about it until years after it happened. Same way with many things the US government has done.
