Unfortunately just having a sister who can live there is not enough to keep you in the country as far as I am aware.

If you go on a tourist visa you can apply for jobs during that period and if you land at job at the right place they will sponsor you with a work visa. There is great demand for English teachers if it is your first language, but there is also a lot of demand in the financial sector.

Japanese language ability usually helps in getting a job, but not always, and certainly as an English language teacher most places do not care if you speak Japanese or not.

With the right qualifications (a spouse who is Japanese, a job, etc), getting a visa (and maintaining it) is not very difficult. Not compared to the INS in the US anyway! They are harsh.

Good luck. Japan is a great place to live.

Some English schools recruit abroad, and they will sponsor your visa. Geos for example, I believe. Some kind of TEFL or teaching qualification wouldn`t hurt, but it isn`t essential for all jobs. If you have family here, you can visit on a 3 month holiday visa but you aren`t allowed to work during that period.

Only if you like the smell of fish. Whole of Japan smells of rotten fish and the women are real smelly too.
