okay, does g refer to gravity? if so, then using a basketball, find someplace with a tall height, and measure the distance of that height (or to the point where you will drop the basketball). then, using a timer, start the timer the moment the ball is let go, and stop it once the ball lands on the ground.

then, use the formula d=vt+1/2a(t^2)
d=distance you measured
v=initial velocity (plug in zero)
t=time measured with stopwatch
a=acceleration (gravity, the term you're solving for)

then g should approximate 9.81 m/s (meters per second)
or 32 ft/s
