I'm afraid this desease was a lot more annoying to deal with before antibiotics.... Home remedies are scarce or questionable.
To prevent it: never touch your eyes with dirty hands. If you have someone sick with conjunctivitis in the household keep in mind that it spreads by touching.

If you have pink-eye, you must get an antibiotic to cure it. Believe it or not, it can lead to some serious health problems if left untreated. Best preventative is too avoid being around someone who has it.
