You can go to Radio Shack, and get a digital timer. They have two or three time settings. you can plug in a lamp, strobe light, or vibrating device such as a massager. I used one for years so not to wake my mother at 3am. If they stay in, you could get a set of headphones, and hook them to a stereo. Just remember to turn on the appliances, the timer works just like a light switch. It turns on electrical power at a certain time, and can be programmed to turn off as well.

This would almost take an electrician, but I have heard of people who wired their over head lights to come on at certain times. I know that you can get wall outlets that have timers on them (i think at home depot) that would work well for a lamp just plug it in and set the timer it has one setting for on and one for off so you turn on the lamp and leave it the timer will do the rest

Some alarm clocks have a light that gets progressively brighter and works really in waking you up in a gentle way!

i won't be in a position to rather describe my alarm. this is on my cellular telephone. this is rather worrying. It sorta has 2 factors. One is a extreme high quality soothing area that gradually rises in sound, then there is an element that appears like nails on a chalkboard. Oh how I detest my alarm.

try buying noise-cancelling headphones (a bit pricey but worth it) and use an alarm clock or other device with an alarm built into it with a headphone jack.
the headphones should be fairly comfortable if you sleep on your back, though it may not be the best thing for you. whatever you do, do not use earbuds. they will give you very painful zits in your inner ear if you sleep with them in.

yes, there's one that uses light that increases in brightness over 15-20 mins. if you set your clock for 7 it starts getting light at 6:40 and gets brighter each minute. if the light doesn't wake you up, music will (if you can hear it). also uses aromatherapy to wake you up. kind of expensive though.
either that or you can have someone call you every morning at the same time-like a wake up call.

There certainly is an alarm clock that wakes you up without music or sound, it's called a cat. If it loves you enough it will rub its face against yours, even hump your hand in the middle of the night if your unlucky enough, oh crap.......what am I answering this one for.........roflol
