It's called abdicating the throne. People are wishing Queen Elizabeth II would abdicate in favour of Prince William.

Yes, Edward VIII became the King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions beyond the Seas, and Emperor of India the death of his father, George V in January 1936 he abdicated in December 1936 to marry divorcee Wallis Simpson. The throne then went to his brother George the VI who is the current Queen Elisabeth II father.

Edward VIII is the only British monarch to have voluntarily relinquished the throne.

Yes,the last monarch to do this was Edward V11,he abdicated before his coronation,therefore he was king due to heredity,although not by coronation,as to her majesty The Queen
abdicating,no,deffinitely not,Charles is our next monarch by right of succession,not William or Harry .Rumour has it that these two were secretly baptised into the catholic faith at the instigation of their mother,constitutionaly,a catholic cannot ascend to the throne,this rumour should be denied or confirmed before any future crowning of either of these two.
