And all the other fast food joints too (yes every one of them).

Would that do more to create social unrest than the 9/11 attacks?

Would America starve to death?

Would/could you get off your fat butt and stand up for social justice and real political change?

That'd be a good thing since 50 % of the Americans are overweight!!

Well if all the fast food restaurants were gone I would not be disappointed, nor would I starve. I am sure that there are people who would go crazy when they couldn't get a Super-sized Big Mac Meal. I don't think that it would cause more social unrest than the 9/11 attacks. There were thousands who died there. Think about it that means there are thousands who lost family members in those attacks. I am not fat, but many in America are. I do not really care for politics so I stray as far away as I can.

Realistically. If every fast food place closed tomorrow morning there'd be new fast food places open by that afternoon. And if there weren't it wouldn't create much more than annoyance. America would surely not starve to death. Any american can make it 72 hours with just the fat in their bodies and they're the most adept culture on the planet when it comes to feeding themselves. They comprise some of the best chefs and best hunters on the planet. I'd argue they know more about agriculture than most countries. But no, they're too busy living with social injustice to take their time to rally around the lesser evil.

That actually is a very interesting question. There would be a lot of grumbling that's for sure. People would be making jokes about it and complaining about it on sitcoms and on the news. Grocery stores would make a lot more money since people would be packing lunches that they brought from home everywhere. Restaraunts would make a killing that's for sure (that's if you don't include them) I don't think anyone would loose weight, though. That's the sad part, they would just find other ways to stuff their faces. Actually, you can already buy frozen White Castle burgers at the grocery store. What if the grocery stores start selling frozen McDonald's burgers? People will find a way. Some kind of way. Trust me. You can't stop a food-lover from eating!

That would actually be a wonderful thing. I'm a terrible cook, so I mostly eat out.

If all of the fast food joints were closed it would force me to become a good cook.

I'd hope it woudn't cause *that* much social unrest, but you never know, with the way people are now.

The U.S. spends about $140 billion on fast food. If it were gone tomorrow there may be social unrest due to the fact that the fast food industry is such a significant part of the U.S. economy. For comparison, that is roughly the amount the U.S. spends on the wireless telecom industry. Both fast food and cell phones are modern day essentials.

That would be sooooo freaking funny.
I can't imagine my sister having to learn to cook (and she's 50!)
She might even shift some of those extra 75 pounds, too.
I live in Italy, we've got a nasty McDonalds every other town or so, and since I've been here (10 years), I've been there maybe 5 times.
The only problem is if you close then all, alot of people would be out of work.

.If fast food disappeared tomorrow America would be stumped...realistically fast food is a corporate monopoly.Alot of money would be lost in the stock market and less income would come from outside countries... fmi, read "Global Showdown". Unfortunately In America alot of people have become dependent on convenience. If taken away, the social unrest would be similar to the reaction from demolishing tobacco companies.

It would be very sad if people did get off their fat butts for such a silly cause. Don't take away my burger, but it's okay to let the gov't send people off to fight and be killed in a pointless war. Thankfully, I live in a place where probably no one would protest the closing of the fast food joints b/c their too busy protesting the illegal war.

Am I a Big Fattie? HAHAHAHA !!!!

I am 6' 5" and incredibly lean and muscular. I also lifted weights competitively for ten years, and in my prime I was almost 250 lbs and 8 % body fat and I could lift tremendous amounts of weight.

I also consumed about 8 000 calories a day at that time, including regular visits to fast food establishments.

You my friend are a conceited *sshole who needs to spend less time worrying about other people's eating habits, and more time worrying about how to become as awesome, both physically and intellectually, a person as myself. If you would quit comparing yourself to the people you despise and start comparing yourself to the people who despise you, you wouldn't have time to worry about MacDonald's because you would be so hard pressed to catch up with the truly physically fit people and morally and pyschologically well established man.

I would go to Burger King. I love Whoppers.

By the way, you are a self congratulatory *sshole. You are sitting down in front of a computer coming up with meaningless hypotheticals to make yourself feel important and active as you compare yourself to other people.

You cannot stand up for social change by the way. The founding fathers did not secure there freedom through protests, but by killing the military agents of the established tyranny.

Also, no matter how much you try to make things better, each individual man is responsible for himself, and must achieve excellence through strength, not through some matriarchal state molly-coddling him down the road of prosperity.

You must approach obstacles as something to overcome, and other people must be ignored, and getting all hyped up on some political cause never made any man stronger or improved any man's lot, it only encouraged a huge government bureaucracy that tends toward the oppresion of men's minds and free actions.

tv dinners? hot dog carts. market forces dictate that a need be filled by something.

it's said that the reason America is more of a beer/whiskey country than a wine country is that a lot of the grapes early in our history were killed off by harsh winters, but the barley/wheat survived.

Economics. As soon as standing up becomes desirable (i.e. grass roots movements akin to the 60's) then it will take over. We as a nation, even with the carefully crafted security threats, are still to comfy to get angry.
