The private sector (business, faith based organizations, civic organizations) should address poverty, since they are more capable than even their government to defeat it.

Don't see why there's an "or" in your question. The US can do both, and far more. And contrary to popular belief, true poverty is relatively rare in the US now, and would be even rarer if the poorest of Mexico's population didn't keep pouring over the border.

Poverty is an issue but giving to people will never solve the problem. People have to be able to pull their own weight and if you continually give them fish they will never go fish on their own. There has to be a balance and welfare is not the answer.

Now for terrorism, when (notice I did not say if) Iran has a functional nuclear device they will test it, but not in the desert or in the open ocean, but probably in a city like NYC, DC or LA. Now following you logic we should quit worrying about that and focus our efforts to solve poverty here. You know what you may have an idea because the nuke will certainly reduce a lot of those currently on poverty in those cities.

Poverty. I can guarentee that not one single homeless person on the streets really cares about a terrorist attack. They have more important things on their mind (like eating).

We have stopped looking for bin Laden, which means we pretty much have stopped fighting a war on terror. I am much more afraid of being robbed or killed by a homeless man than anything a terrorist has done or can do.

I am not saying give hand outs........but if poverty was at least adressed as a problem......I'd feel MUCH more safer.
