The first problem is solved by a simple multiplication. Note that 1.4% can also be represented as .014 so take that times $32000 to get $448.
The second problem requires that $10.80 per week be multiplied by 52 (weeks in a year) to get the total annual payment for the private insurance; this amounts to $561.60. But the medicare levy comes in addition to this, so multiply .014 times 48000 to get the levy cost: it is $672.00. Adding these two cost items together gives $1233.60. To determine the percentage, take $1233.60/$48000, giving .026 or 2.6%.

a) 32000 x .014=448 Multiply the Medicare Levy rate by the annual income.

b) 48000 x .014=672 Medicare x income
10.80 x 52=561.60 Weekly payments times 52 weeks
672+561.60=1233.60 Added together
1233.60/48000=.0257 or 2.6% (rounded up) Payments divided by income.

if the levy applies to the income it should be $448 and not 488 because it should be 1.4% x 32000 = 448.
as regards the 2nd question, there are 52 weeks in a year, at 10.80 a week that translates to 52 x 10.80 =561.60 and then 561.60 divided by 48,000 = 1.17% of her annual income.

1.4% = .014 as a multiplier

a) 32000 x .014 = 448

b) 48000 x .014 = 672.00 ----> This is medicare
10.80 x 52 = 561.60 ------>This is 52 weeks x $10.80/wk
total = 1233.60 ----> Add the two together 672+561.60
