A paternity test was once a simple blood test. But the results were not very reliable. Today, the paternity test is a DNA test and the results, if the test is done properly, are very reliable. If the mother of the child or infant claims a man is the biological father of her child and asks the court for child support from said father, the court will order a DNA test to prove positive the child is that of the biological father. If you refuse to give the test, you can be ordered to pay child support without the proof positive and/or you can be put jailed for not paying child support. It's wise to take the test, and then support your child if it is, in fact, your child. If it is not your child, the court will not make you pay, unless you have recognized the child as your child and have established a relationship/bonding with the child and mother.

well you need to break it down more...DNA is your genes and how you're made up....like each snowflake is different....each person has their own set of codes (family gene pool)....now if you were just to get a paternity test you used to have to give a sperm sample...but nowadays they just use a cotton swab in your mouth and see if your cells are a close match to the childs...seeing that it took 2 people to make a child...you should match if you are the father.....so a paternity test is part of a DNA test...however there are lots of other types of DNA testing done...when the legal system uses DNA in court it's because some kind of body evidence was left behind...whether it was a rape and there's semen or pubic hair...they can take it to the lab and see how the cells are made-up...and if they thought you did it they would get say a piece of your hair bring it to the lab and see if it matched or not.....

Jason & Derek have not got precisely the comparable DNA as examined by ability of a paternity or relationship try. The paternity try makes use of a diverse form of genes than a strait Y-DNA try.
