They don't pay attention in school and they're just plain lazy when it comes to doing a spell check! I just read one where the word "there" was used when it should have been "their." It really is very annoying. It really makes the person appear uneducated. I don't suppose we can really do anything about it. There will always be people who don't care how they sound or appear in print.
In addition; I am disgusted by first two responses! Such attitude!!!

Because our education system is horrible. In my job I run across lots of checks where the part where you write out the amount in words is blank. The lady at the bank told me that it's because a lot of people don't know how to spell numbers (how do you spell thirteen?) It's really sad. What's sadder is the people who don't know how to spell thirteen are having more babies than the people who do.

I wish it were primarily due to typing errors, but, much to my disappointment, it really is due to ignorance. A very sad commentary for a society that gives every kid a chance (through the age of 18) to learn how to read, write, and perform arithmetic. I don't blame the teachers, I blame the parents!
