I vote LOTR

I would argue for LOTR (all three films earned Best Picture nominations), except technically it really is only one film, divided into three seperate parts (due to it's epic length). On those grounds, my vote would shift to the "The Godfather" trilogy. The fact of the matter is that the first Godfather film really didn't demand a sequel. It has a self-contained story (like the original Star Wars film (1977), and can stand alone. The same could be said that the second Godfather film didn't demand a follow-up either. I do agree that the third film in the trilogy was a cut below the previous films, but it still earned a Best Picture nomination.

The "Alien" series had a great thing going until David Fincher had to go and screw it all up. I could still kick him in the nuts for that.

The Lord of the Rings is the best, then comes The Matrix Trilogy.

As Jackal said: Lord of the Rings Although is not properly a trilogy but a very long movie since it was made like a single movie with three parts.

Sorry, but I have to invoke the Holy Trinity here:

The Original Star Wars Trilogy. Ep. IV, V, and VI.

All others pale in comparison.

Far behind in second place: Indiana Jones.

The Godfather Trilogy would be #1 if it weren't for the thrid installment being absolute crap. So basically it is only two films...

The Godfather... but ONLY because the first two were two of the greatest films ever made. Part III was in fact really good (ASIDE from Sofia Coppola!)

Second best would be Lord of the Rings

Third would be the original Star Wars trilogy... which would have been number two, were it not for those darned "unblinking-black-eyed-teddy-bear-warriors" the Ewoks... don't forget... you can't spell Ewok without "ew".

Runner-up Back to the Future

The evil dead trilogy is by far the best. Make sure to check out part 3 called Army of Darkness.

The Godfather... even though the 3rd was a little sub par, it is one of the best classic trilogies ever made!! I also have the LOTR and El Mariachi trilogies on DVD which I love!!
