I know this might sound trivial but on the wedding invitations is it tradition to announce the brides name first or the grooms ? me and my wife and her dad had a argument over this as i felt the mans name should be put first as it made me feel that my wife respected me as the head of the house needless to say i was overruled by her and her family ; { and it is still a sore point today

The brides name goes first....And as far as the respect you feel owed to you, go suck on a egg.....

Traditionally, wedding invitations are worded like this:
"Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Nelson announce the marriage of their daughter Hilary to Mr. Joseph Preston . . . " The idea was that the parents were marrying off their daughter to a man, who acts independently (the groom's parents were not mentioned). In a modern marriage, the couple may want something that sounds more egalitarian.

Are you the groom here? I'm confused, since you speak of your wife, as though you're already married. Who's getting married? If you're not yet married, you and your bride might want to think things over before tying the knot. You sound pretty overbearing to me.

Traditionally the bride's name goes first, but it is not why you would think. It has nothing to do with who is head of household or wearing the pants in the relationship. It's done this way because normally the bride's parents pay for the wedding, which includes invitations. And when they do this, it always starts out with "Mr. and Mrs. _____ would like to invite you to the wedding of our daughter,_____ and ______. It's the way it's been for decades honey. I'd let it go and think of it this way...from then on out, your name comes first on just about everything...even the bills will come with Mr. and Mrs.______.

Congrats on the wedding and let it go, it's not worth the fuss...it's just paper.
