still a week later we have yet to find a way for the computer to get internet connection back...

as far as i kno, we have tried other cable, we have tried restarting the modem many times, different ways. we've tried many things.

if you have any other ideas, or know nething about this type of thing plz contact me.

you would be surprised how easy it is to fry computer equipment!

Start replacing devices, one by one.... then go to radio shack and get a surge suppressor for every piece of hardware that cost you more than 25 dollars.

More than likely your modem is shot and you'll need another one.

You really need to get yourself some surge protection for the computer and modem. Berkin makes the best product, I think, on the market.

short answer isn't any. DSL does not enable you to make a 'community' between residences such as you recommend. you ought to evaluate connecting an ethernet cable between the two residences, yet 400meters is plenty previous the optimal distance which you would be able to run this variety of cable. Even 4 hundred ft could be stretching it. you ought to evaluate utilising a wifi router. The N variety could make it from one living house to the different if the partitions are skinny, yet 4 hundred meters continues to be way far for even that.

Replacing the modem itself + power adapter? Even the cable wiring of your own house is a suspect, try another outlet?

Modems often have fine wires that break like a fuse when there's a problem. Try swapping the modems between working and non working PCs. Good Luck!

Most likely the NIC in the computer that won't come back up on the Internet has failed. You'll need to replace it.
