There's nothing wrong with you! You see something in him that you want other guys to possess: security and understanding. You have known each other long enough and practically know everything there is to know about each other. He knows your strengths and weaknesses as you know his. You feel comfortable around him. My best advise is to look for the traits he possess when talking to other guys. If this helps then you'll realize why u like him so much!

Okay, here is what you do. Get alone with him in a house or a car in a desolate parking lot. Wear your sexxxiest outfit, have a straight guy help determine that. I know how you feel. I was briefly "in love" with my gay best friend. There's nothing wrong with you. Gay men are attractive, well-groomed little beings. It will pass in time when you accept that you just can't change a leopard's spots. :)
