'Affirmative Action' and 'Political Correctness'. Many women, (not me) would throw a tantrum if either men had a study, or women didn't. Just reading some of the answers by women to this question displays women's sexism, and chauvinism.

I agree with exotica, if women were equal to men in the last 100 years there would be no need to have a women studies group. But something happened in the past to women that put them at risk as people in society. What was that and how does it affect us today as a society when we still continue some of these gender bias situations involving women. These are the daughters of our parents, these are the mothers of our children how then could we treat them so that in the early 1900's they were even deprived of voting rights. If you think that gentlemen's studies needs to be addressed then speak to those in charge at your university to ask about such courses beginning. Maybe they will start such a course but if no one shows up or takes it why have it on the study list?

Hah. You think there's a female bias just because Women's Studies exists?
99% of history is biased toward males. Very, very rarely does a typical history class concentrate on the women of the era it's teaching on.

This question is the same as asking, "Why is there Black History Month?". Basically, if Black, Asian, or women's history was understood as history in general, then there would be no need to single it out.
In many psychology and sociology classes and even medical studies, only white middle class men were studied or surveyed. No one else was represented. Therefore, if their sides are to be shown, they need a special study, i.e. women's studies, Asian studies.

because there is no stereotype about men compare to women. We've been put down so now we need to discover our pride as a women in 2006. The evolution of our place in the society since the 50's deserve to have a place in history. And we are still fighting....

Vonnie Dee is totally right.
Take Freud for example. He based all his studies on men and just 'presumed' women were opposite. 'Men are obsessed with their penis so women must have penis envy'! Yet he said himself that e doesn't understand women.
This is just one of many examples of why there needs to be women's studies. There is a lack of (or false) understanding of women through history.
Simple.

Well men find it hard to talk about their problems so why open up avenues for them that they just won't go to.

I agree completely. If what Vonny Dee said was ever correct, which I doubt, It certainly hasn't been true for the 63 years that I have been alive.
