The word "it" isw missing from your question.

Also there might be a couple of ways to answer your question, "What is it that sustains life?"

Once a particular form of life is existing (already here),
sustaining that life form requires:

Continuation of a suitable environment, sufficient heat,
suitable light, clean air supply, clean water supply.

Adequate supply of nutritious food.

Adequate space to manuver in so that the life form is not poisoned by its own waste.

Take away any of these and the life form will die.

There are many answers to that so I will be general about it, Procreation, sustains life, without it life will cease to continue, food, brought to us by others who are alive and tend the fields and livestock sustain us, death, death of others who give room for the newly arrived, death of an animal so we may consume it, sustains life, not to forget all the other things such as air, water, earth, the sun, and so many other things that would take all night to write here, (and lets not forget), the energy of life force, just in case somebody is ready to jump me for not writing that.

Here is a technical answer:
Life from a biologist's viewpoint is the fighting against entropy and equilibrium. Death is literally when your body is in equilibrium with the environment. So to over come this our bodies need ATP (adenine-triphosphate). Our bodies make this engergy buy eating, breathing, and drinking. Everything we eath and drink is to help make ATP.
