A firm handshake is best. In the professional world, one should shake hands the same way with a man or a woman. If a man gives me a weak handshake, I feel that he does not respect me.

Firm handshake. And women should follow suit. SOOOO many women have limp wristed fish handshakes. A firm handshake was one of the first things I remember my dad drilling into my head when I was a teenager.

I'll tell you honestly that a man-woman handshake is mostly a liberal or feminist custom that was rarely done in previous times. A handshake is more suitable between two men for conveying masculine sinceritiy and strength between one another.
When I shake a man's hand, I can get a pretty good idea of his character and how strong of an individual he is. I normally try to avoid shaking a woman's hand, as I sitll believe it's not necessary and borders on being improper, in my opinion. More respect can be conveyed by a well-mannered verbal introduction.
Now, this might offend liberals, but guess what. I have expressed this according to my right of Freedom of Speech, so there.

I prefer a firm handshake.
I hate wimpy handshakes.
But I did experience the drastic opposite. I had a VP who came from Brazil come around and shake everyone's hand at the end of the year. He had a crushing grip and my hand hurt for quite a while afterwards. But evidently someone must have told him, because at the end of the next year, he had learned how to shake hands without being painful.
So, unless you don't know your own strength, give me a real handshake please!

I like it when a man takes my hand and shakes it firm but not hard, a nice confident handshake with a sincere look in his eyes. Not a floppy fish handshake.

I think that's a personal preference. I like a firm handshake, but not so firm that my handbones get squished. I also like warm not sweaty hands.

I like it Firm but gentle. Don't squeeze it hurts if we wear rings. You might refer to an Etiquette book or site on this one though. It also depends on if its business or pleasure. If its a first meet or date be soft and gentle maybe even clasping your other hand over hers to let her know you are pleased to be meeting her. Business should be firm, confident and brief as to not be flirty.

Personally, I find it abhorrent when I receive a loose, limp handshake. It makes me think that the person giving this type of handshake is weak & pathetic.
