I have seen about the same amount of risks in young people as I have the older mothers. All depends on how well nourished you are, a good diet and a good multivitamin. Oddly enough for all that has been written the down syndrome babies I have seen born have been to young mothers. Also babies with multiple defects have been to young mothers. So anytime in your 20's is a good age if you are healthy do not drink or do drugs. anywhere from 20 to 40. My mother in law had her first at age 16 and last at age 45. All healthy.

I would say that later in life you choose to have children would pose more of a potential risk . Lots of people 30 + have children its not just for kids in there 20's.

Under 40 is usually considered good. 40+ adds many risks and the occurance of Down's Syndome in much higher.

I suppose mid-20's is ideal, but if a woman is healthy and can concieve she can be older. They have so many medical advances now that I heard of a 60 year old that had a baby not too long ago.
