My first three periods were a sense of warmth and a dot of blood on my panties. (It's called 'spotting')
Currently, my periods last eight days (most of it heavy flow, though it trickles around the fourth and fifth day, only to come back when I least expect it.)
Now that I've revealed deeply embarrasing and personal secret information, I would like to specify the point: it's your first one! It'll be anywhere from a few months to a year before your body settles in to a fixed cycle, and even then it varies.
In the mean time, take a bath every day (paying special attention DOWN THERE--don't worry about getting blood on your hands, it doesn't flow in the shower) and eat lots of bananas (that was not a subliminal sick comment, bananas help with menstrual pain.)
Also, avoid salt and have lots of iron (the mineral--don't stick iron in your mouth)
And keep panty liner with you at all times. For the week after your first period, you're liable for unexpected bleeding (TOTALLY NORMAL)
Most of all, don't freak out. No matter what happens.
Unless the blood is green.
Then freak out.
Or call a doctor.

Of course, a period lasts 1-10 days, and the first one it's very short. It's usually only lasts for a day or two.

Congrats!

Very normal. Your periods could be irregular and last one to three days for the first year.

Yes, it is normal. When you first get your period it lasts for weird times. It's called an "irregular" period.

Haha, I like this question - it has two answers.
Yes, because it's normal for your first year or so to be abnormal.
And...
No, because... well... after that time is up, you're gonna ask yourself how in the heck was your period ever so darn crazy?! (Besides how can something "abnormal" be normal? [It's naturally unnatural??!])
Unless you're like me... if that's the case, then you're pretty lucky, because from the start I got mine 3 days a week exactly EVERY 28 days, except on leap years... but I'm just abnormal like that.
:-)

Yes, there is no such thing as "normal"...you will have to determine what is normal for "you" after you've been having a period for about a year or so. Don't worry, every-one's is totally different and determined by thier own personal bodily hormones.
