Guys, Jimmy Page as a teen (like all his contemporaries in England did in the early 60's), listened to old blues records by Robert Johnson, Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, BB King, Howlin' Wolf, etc. So it's very natural to be influenced by their music and try to emulate them. All he did was different versions of those songs by adding some hard rock riffs & solos. It was like paying tribute to them and their music. We all know that in music everybody is "stealing / borrowing / cheating / copying" from each other but metaphorically speaking! I think the appropriate right term is "influenced by". It still happens today with hip-hop, R'n'B or dance music. Check out the latest song "Ain't No Other Man" by Christina Aguilera! She confessed in her interview on MTV that it's a tribute to the sweet old jazz & soul music, which she loves so much!
What J.Page did wrong, was claiming "Whole Lotta Love" as his own song which made the Blues community and especially Willie Dixon furious!

That is outrageous, but I seen even outrageous things in Rock N' Roll, so maybe Homer is right. LOL

It's true.

Jimmy Page took some songs like "whole lotta love" and claimed to have written them himself.

He got sued by a bunch of guys.

I've heard the originals -- they are great but I prefer Led Zeps go at it.

How can you steal music? You can use it as an influence, but you can't steal it.
