If you waited for a reasonable amount of time, just tell them that you want to be paid back NOW!!!

You call them up and politely ask them if they have the Money they owe you. Their is no need to beat around the Bush. If they owe you money then they know this. You having to remind them is not a big deal. Hey, it's your money after all and not theirs. So ask them for it or remind them by coming right out and asking them to pay you .

Just don't be rude or confrontational about it, but it's okay to be a little forward. I mean, they do OWE YOU MONEY! So, just very matter of factly work it into the conversation, saying something like (seeming a little caught off guard yourself by the realization): "Hey! I almost forgot. Do you have that 20 bucks I loaned you?"

Ask if you can borrow some money from him or her, and say the same amount of money they borrowed from you, then they probably remember that they owe you some money. I think there's no polite way of asking someone to pay back the money they owe, in my opinion.

hmm there is no real polite way..but here is a diplomatic way -- if he owes you 20 dollars -- make semblance that you are ready to give him 30 dollars if he has a 50 dollar bill. he will get the message and you might get the money. at least it is a reminder.

Just ask them straight out. Are they a friend? Is it a lot of money or just a small amount? Get collateral the next time if you lend them money again. How bad do you want to keep them as a friend? Say something like -- How about we go out to eat and you pay!

Never let a person borrow money, if you do be prepared to make a gift of it. Or else it will become a thorn in your side. You will brew over it, get ready to confront them in a not so nice way, And worst of all you'll find out who your friends are.

I would say something like this..."hey, I hate to bring this up, but I could really use that $20. I loaned you, I'm a little short on cash right now." I've had to do this recently with my nephew and it went well. He actually apologized and said he had forgotten about it. No big deal.

You tell them: Hey you remember the cash I lend to you well in about a week or so I'm gonna need it back. I have to use it for something. etc etc. So when do you think you can give it to me.

*** After that learn your leason and DON'T lend money to that individual again***

I try not to loan out money...if I cannot give it to you w/o expecting it back you will not receive it in the beginning.

money separates the chiefest friends; like termites it destroys the foundation of relationships.

Good luck asking/receiving what's due you.

By having nothing to do with them and never loaning them anything else again. Who is this person? Is it someone that you see frequently or rarely? How much do they owe you? Why did you loan them the money in the first place? Do you feel vunerable to doing this again?
