Why are people so rude on Halo 2 (xbox live)?

Question

Anyone who's played Halo 2, should know what I mean by the question - the vile language (racist, sexist and homophobic remarks during and in particular at the end of the game, when in the lobby) and endless threats and cursing. Why?

I'm assuming its because the game has guns and grenades (if you other games like sporting or racing games, usually they are civilised and can have a nice conversation while playing), but I'm still amazed at the number of people I come across that take it so seriously. As much as I love the gameplay in it, there are times when I just feel ashamed to be playing it, when you hear other players bragging about 'raping you' or that 'you're a retard'.

I do hope when Halo 3 comes out, something can be done to fix this problem (maybe improve the feedback system or something?) I have a dream that one day Halo 2 or 3 can be played by everyone from people of all walks of life, in particular, girls! As it is though, I don't blame them for avoiding the game.

Omg its horrible. My boyfriend has it and every so often I'll go on to play while he's busy and there's like little twelve year olds cursing their brains out. (Granted some of the older people aren't too much better either). I do think they need to do something to fix it though.
I just showed him your question, because I thought he'd like the question. He gave me an answer which I will pass onto you. He said that all of the language gets people frustrated and screws people up, add fuel to the fire in a sense. The more people talk crap, the madder people get and people tend to play bad when they are mad.

my bf says that you must suck because if you didn't then people wouldn't be flipping you s**t.

i think it's to make you frustrated and screw you up and to make them feel better about losing.
