No one can say for sure till you take the top off and look at the situation. Like others are saying; the float might be stuck but more likely something is stuck under the flapper preventing it from sealing. Could be the tab, could be damaged flapper or could just be scaly crud that got loosened from side of tank. Don't be afraid to stick your hand in there just because its part of the "toilet." The worst thing you'll get is chemical from the "tab." Reach down to the bottom where the water exits beneath the black rubber flapper. Lift the flapper and feel if there is sediment (crud) gathered there. Swipe it out with your fingers and see if it makes a difference. If that is the problem and you want to get in and clean the bottom of the tank better, do this...
1.) Turn the water supply off at the wall down behind toilet.
2.) Flush the toilet; it'll empty out so you can get in there to get all particles out of there. Avoid chemicals, just use rags. Be sure to wipe the bottom of the flapper and the place it settles into.
3.) Turn the water source on again. (Don't wait too long)
4.) After it fills up, again hopefully things will be good.
5.) Remember to wash that chemical off yourself really well!

Some of the other answers are good - make sure you didn't bump anything inside. Either the flapper is not down all the way or the float that turns off the water is messed up. Also, did this happen as soon as you put the tidy bowl in, or a little later. Every plumber I've talked to about bowl fresheners (and I do mean EVERY plumber), says that the ones that go in the water tank are not good. They can damage your flapper and other seals. And, if they are colored and leak on the floor, they can stain it. Also, they tend to crystallize into small, hard particles that can stop up the jet holes that put the water into the bowl to make the water swirl. You can get fresheners that hang in the side of the bowl. Those are safe, as long as they don't get knocked in and flushed.

Open the back lid where the water reservoir is and see if the float ( round or football shaped ) water level is going up and down properly when you flush. Check the drain from the tank to the stool and see if it is opening and closing properly. The tablet might have got lodged in the drain opening preventing the rubber drain lid/cap from closing all the way. Check these things while flushing the toilet a few times so you can see what's going on. It might help to "jiggle" the flush handle too. Hope this helps.

make sure the chain that lifts the flapper is not under the flapper holding it from sealing around the flush valve.not the case then (if your toilet has this ) bend the rod that holds the float ball down alittle This will lower the level of the water in your tank..

Is the tablet underneath any of the working parts? That will definitely make it keep running.

i'm not a plumber--to stop the toilet....
1)you may have to stick your hand in the front part and remove what you dropped in there\
2)jiggle the handle
3)turn the water off by the toilet-you may have to turn it on again to flush
4)I think your having trouble in the toilet-the back part-see whats going on in there-don't be rough
5)WD-40 may help you loosen that handle that turns the water on for the toilet
6)TURN OFF MAIN WATER WHEN YOU ARE GOING TO TAKE TOILET APART
7)go to hardware store
8)you must turn the water off that leads to sinks, tubs,+toilets
9)contact me for more info

look to see if the chain is too lose and keeping the stopper from sealing shut in the tank correctly, or the tablet may have gotten under the stopper too.
