CAN they check your credit? - yes if you sign a release. Most of the time it is in the fine print on your application.

WILL they check your credit - it depends. As at least one Answerer has pointed out - just because they ask to do the check doesn't mean they actually will do it.

Will your credit affect your ability to get a job? ABSOLUTELY! Not every time, but more times than most people think. It doesn't even have to be job related as other answers have suggested.

From what you have said, I think you may be in the running for this job. Of course it depends on how much the past due accounts are for, how long over due, and the specific employer.

You will get the job anyway.... In the past 6 months I had 2 extensive background checks done on me... One so I could work at a Bank and the other for the Airlines.... I had to sign papers so they could contact my credit bureaus, past employers, etc... Neither time did they ever check my credit... I check my 3 credit bureaus 3 months later and there was NEVER an inquiry from anyone since 2004. I was really shocked by this... So they seem to not bother with that... They are looking for the big stuff.. Like are you a terrorist threat or thief? You are so squeaky clean that Mr Clean would look dirty next to you

If you will be in control of money at your prospective insurance job than your 2 past due accounts would be a red flag for the employer. If you have a viable excuse as to why you have blemished credit you are allowed to write to the 3 major reporting agencies as to your reasoning. That reasoning is then posted on your credit report. Good Luck with your job.

your crdit report has a lot to do today about getting a job as well as getting insurance, getting a loan. you would be surprised at how yor credit will effect you in things that you would not even think of. if you have blemishes on your credit see what you can do about clearing that up. i would think that they will not being this to your attention. however since you have a good background and no criminal record or driving record that is negative, you may be in the running....

the credit report has nothing to do with your ability to perform your job duties, the credit report will only come in handy for a bank when you want to take out a loan, so relax and go get that job!

If the job offer is contingent on your background check, you should pass with flying colors. It's best to take care of those accounts if you haven't already, though.

you might be affected because of your credit. i applied at a retail store and they didnt call me. i asked and they said that my credit history had a lot to do with me not getting called in for an interview.

being an insurance company, it makes sense that they would do a credit check.

:(

that probably won't even affect you at all. Now if you were applying at a bank YES that would not be good. But Good Luck anyway. Hope you get the job.
