Benadryl would be a better choice for sleep..not habit forming..NyQuil has alcohol plus an antihistamine and other things to clear up stuffy noses, coughs etc, so you can sleep..

It's the alcohol mixed with the other ingredients that make you sleepy. And YES its bad to take when you don't need it. Find something else to put you to sleep instead of a drug because even over the counter drugs can be addictive. Call someone to talk to next time you break up with your BF.

You should not be taking this type of product unless you are sick and need to be taking it. It is very easy to become addicted to these types of mixtures. If you are having trouble sleeping because of nerves or anxiety, you need to be going to a doctor, and not self-medicating. I am sorry to hear about your breakup, that is always a tough situation. A lot of these otc medications have been found to be very damaging to the liver and entire endocrine system. Have a good night.

It's called alcohol.
It's a different type of alcohol than what you drink. And it's addictive. It's a more pure concentration, and combined with the ingredients in it that nail your symptoms (which is also what make you sleepy), it's like nectar to some people.
Be careful, eventually the effects will wear off, you'll build a tolerance, you'll drink more, and you will develop liver problems.

It's the dipenhydramine that is in it, its also in Benadryl and other OTC medicines for cold's and sleeplessness. Watch how much you take, only take it when your sick, if you need something for your nerves you need to see a doctor.
