I don't hate gay people, but I just don't see a reason for them to march down a street and proudly display their sexual orientation.

Yes we am very proud of being gay and there is nothing wrong with that. We see a very good reason for us to march down a street and display our sexual orientation and the reason is WE CAN AND WE ARE VERY PROUD OF WHO WE ARE!
So we decide to let the world see and all who oppose to this does not have to watch us.

I think that the need to proclaim being proud of who they are is a result of the discrimination and b.s. they've had to hear their whole lives. I'm a straight old married lady with two kids; but if I'd been hearing all my life that I was living against God, I was going to hell, I was some sort of deviant, I should stay away from people's kids, I should keep my love for someone hidden like a dirty secret, etc. I might feel the need to take a little march myself.

It always amazes me when straight people harp about these parades. We've got teenage girls and boys being unbelievably publicly promiscuous at Spring Breaks, women showing their tata's for beads at Mardi Gras; and then there's Las Vegas, where anything can happen and no one has to know wink wink. I've got nothing against any of them really, live and let live. But let's not throw stones when we, as straight Americans, live in glass houses.

I'll relate it to you the way I explained once to another person who asked this (quite ignorant) question:

There's a Mother's Day, a Father's Day, and a Grandparents' Day. Very often, you hear children squawk about wanting a Kids' Day. But people tell them that there's no need in there being a Kids' Day. Why? Because every damn day of the year is Kids' Day.

Every damn day of the year is Straight Pride Day. Straights sexually maul each other in public every chance they get. You can't go anywhere without seeing a man and woman grope and slobber and straddle each other publicly. But boohoo, a gay or lesbian couple are holding hands or having a little smooch, and it's the end of the world. Let us have our parades and Gay Pride Day and quitcherbitching, huh?

Straight couples march down the street with their tongues in each others throats every day.....all day....everywhere...even at Disneyland.

Think about it.

Gay parades aren't about "proudly displaying their sexual orientation"......they're about release from oppression.

The sexuality is the sideline, its the pride in standing up to the oppression. If people hadn't oppressed, illegally arrested, beaten up, harassed, fired, evicted, and all the other things that have been done to gay people, there wouldn't be a parade. The sexuality is mentioned only because that was the reason for the attacks.

It isn't about being proud of being gay. It's about being gay, and being proud. And there is a difference. For too long society has told us that we have to be ashamed. Just because we are gay. But we have every bit as much to be proud of as a straight person. Proud of our education, proud of our jobs, proud of our citizenship, proud of our families, and proud of any of our accomplishments and aspirations. So it isn't that we're proud of being gay. Its that we can be gay, and still have pride. It is saying that being gay isn't something to lose pride over.

As for the parade, you are being unreasonable. It happens once a year, well advertised in advance, and in most cities, it happens in a largely gay neighborhood. So get over it. Maybe you don't hate us, but if you object to the parade, you're intolerant, and that's not a good thing.

I am proud of being a lesbian. I am proud of the way I live my life. I am proud of the way I raised my children. I am proud of the way I treat others with the dignity and respect that I expect. I will march every day if I can set an example that defines my life. So, in answer to your question...I AM proud I am gay. I don't regret it and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Why would anybody be proud to be a nasty deviant ? Should men that cheat on their wife's be proud ? Should there be a Bi Polar Parade ? I think in the last 20 yrs society has told kids to disregard rules and be yourself , do what ever you damn well want to. When their 60 yrs old and are having problems in life they will blame their parents. Morals are like the three little pigs , If you build a weak support and party then the big bad wolf will catch up to you , then you will have to mooch off your family.

I believe that they do that to remind the ones that aren't proud (or afraid to do so), that it's okay to be gay. I'm not gay, but I don't see anything wrong with it, as long as you admit to it. Just be proud of who you are, and in a world where being gay is still taboo and unaccepted by many people, having a parade is actually pretty cool.

Are black people too proud of being black? They have a whole damn month for them. Are mexicans proud of being Mexicans? Irish proud of being Irish?

Hell, if you want nitty-gritty, are Chrisitans too proud of being Christian?

It's better to be out and uncloseted. You tend feel alone when you're closeted, and much more afraid of what people will think. Being out can be wonderful, nad it makes people feel better about themselves.

You go to church, do you not? celebrate Christmas, Easter, wear a cross, probably have a few Fish or 'Jesus Saves' bumper stickers. Are you too proud of your religion?
