Judge to head latest Diana inquest
LONDON, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- A top British judge has agreed to take on the inquest into the death of Princess Diana, the Times of London reported Saturday.
Elizabeth Butler-Sloss, 73, who retired last year as president of the High Court's Family Division, has agreed to take the inquest scheduled for 2007, the newspaper said.
Last month Royal Coroner Michael Burgess unexpectedly withdrew from the case, citing his heavy workload in his other role as the Surrey coroner.
There will be separate inquests into the deaths of Diana and into her companion, Dodi Fayed, in a Paris crash that happened nine years ago this week.
The inquests will examine the conspiracy theories floated by Fayed's father who has claimed the couple was murdered on the orders of the Royal Family because Diana was pregnant, The Times said.
A French investigation concluded the couple's drunken chauffeur was responsible for the accident.
