I am going to answer both yes and no. Watching the US Open, I like what the instant replay has done for tennis. And they have figured out a way to interject it without allowing it to dominate the game.
I would like to see instant replay on calls on the bases or for fair or foul calls.
On the other hand, I am against it for balls or strike calls -- only because there would be several challenges for almost every batter. That would hurt the game and slow it down even more. That wouldn't be a good thing.
I think part of the game's charm is to see a batter or pitcher get in sync with an umpire's strike zone and adapt and adjust to it. If you had instant replay for balls and strike calls, there would be no need for a human behind home plate and that wouldn;t be good for the game. As long as an umpire is consistent with calloing a low strike or a high strike, then I like to see a batter or pitcher recognize that and adapt accordingly.
You also have the aspect of older more veteran pitchers (like Greg Maddux) being given a wider more liberal strike zone by umpires and -- call it wrong -- but I like that human element to the game.
So how about that for waffling back and forth -- no to balls and strikes with the instant replay and yes to everything else that is a judgement call.
So it probably won't happen.

Yes. There have been games blown on terrible calls and it seems that some teams always get the bad calls in their favor (Yankees) thus giving them an unfair advantage. The strike zone will probably be called entirely by computer in the future anyways and rules can be made as to when and how plays can be challenged. And trust me, there will still be managers going crazy. It would happen in football more often if the coaches were not as important to the outcome of the game.

Replays (there is really no longer some thing instantaneous about it) artwork in football because there's a penalty for the coach being incorrect on the allure via being charged with a time-out. there is not any thanks to do an same in baseball. Hockey makes use of the objective cam to verify targets on account that those can ensue truly without delay and ought to have a right away effect on the game. i in my opinion trust even as the gamers end making blunders and swinging at crap pitches then (and actually then) can making use of replay be considered. and also you're incorrect about baseball no longer being the nationwide activity. there is an huge resurgence in baseball today from Little League and Cal Ripken to Legion ball to professional ball, truly in any respect ranges of stripling League. perchance you need to get off the settee and actually pass watch a recreation.

the only thing i think needs to change in baseball is the fact that each and every umpire has a different strike zone, and sometimes even that changes inning to inning. having said that, remember when it was rare for an home plate umpire to approve an appeal for a checked swing? it seems now that every checked swing, even if he clearly did not cross the plate is being appealed, and it is my belief that instant replay would be the same. a game that takes 3 hrs now, give or take, would last 2 or 3 times as long. leave america's past time alone.

why ruin the beauty of baseball? it flows and the umpires are certainly better then instant replay... take the acceptable strike zone for a called strike. It is said to be 2 inches either way and k-zone(sunday night baseball) Shows this. If you start questioning the umpires judgement... whats the point, you may as well have them play on the PS2.

No! Without instant replay you have impromptu arguments from managers/players/coaches versus the umps. They always get the crowd rocking.
Also, you would be taking away the authority that the umpires have on the field. Every close play WOULD be REVIEWED. The on-field umps probably just stop calling any/all plays and point up towards the booth. Think what it would do to the calling of balls and strikes. The on-field ump calls a strike....the review ump calls it a ball. Why would the on-field ump want to continue to call balls and strikes?
His only reason for being on the field would be to argue with the manager when the review ump makes a mistake. I can see the ump calling the review ump....I have someone here who wants to talk with you.....

The Umpires are not covered by the anti-trust exemption after Selig wiped them off the face of the earth following the 2000 strike.
The owners will never pass instant replay. I think instant replay was used as a bargaining chip in 2000.

I would say yes but there wouldnt be a challenge or anything just have someone in booth replay the video over and over and if decides they were wrong then let it be known alot of games have deciding plays that change game..like the last no hitter eric byrnes was safe for the last out in the 9th

No, the umpires are right on top of the plays, not like in other sports. They are right in 99% of their calls, and that is better than any other sport can claim. An out, strike, ball is a judgement call, and the rule book says u can not argue or protest a judgement call. This is why baseball is so exciting.

No because it takes the integrity from the umpires, 9 times out of 10 they make the right call anyways. And if you wanna have instant replay you wouldnt need umpires just have cameras everywhere and have people in video replay make every call, that would add more time to games and you would never get to see managers throw a fit which everyone loves to see.
