The interviewer is a man, just for the record. (And yes, it does matter. Women interviewers will often hire someone that looks dowdy over someone who looks more sophisticated. Why? I won't even answer that, haha. You already know.) But anyway, what are your suggestions?

Wear black. Most Dillard's sales staff wear black, at least around here. Wear a black dress, or a black skirt and professional looking blouse, or a very nice black pantsuit.

Wear something that suggests that you might actually shop at Dillard's. And good luck with your interview.

Easy. Wear a nice repectable dress that you would impress a guy you like at church. But look at what the other girls are wearing in the store and dress one step above that. don't over dress. Sell yourself into the job. Tell him what he wants to hear without lying. It is not all about what you are wearing it is the total package. dress, act, and play the part but, make sure he know you are DEAD serious about getting the job by showing up properly dressed, on time, and be ready to work the next day if asked.

Don't go dowdy whether they're male or female.
Go crisp, clean, professional.

Nice slacks of a solid color such as gray, brown, eggplant, or black with a simple but nice blouse. Wear a blazer to match the slacks if weather permits.

This look comes down to bag and shoes. Make sure your bag and shoes match and are nice.

Wear the most conservative business suit you have that is still feminine. You want to convey professionalism, appropriate level of attire, and feminity at one glance. No camisole underneath, a collared shirt -- look like a girly man and I'm sure it will win you big points.

a nice skirt and blouse, pantyhose and nice dress shoes. don't look too formal though and don't be too conservative. Good luck! Dillard's is one of my favorite stores.

For an interview, conservative is a better than casual.
