im a 43 year old single mother that has childcared my whole life. My daughter is going to be 18 pretty soon and I want to find another job when she moves out. I went to school for Early Childhood Education, but I have no experience in anything else. I want to do something exciting that I like, but ive gone over and over career ideas and nothing clicks. It seems like Im not interested in anything. (as pathetic as that sounds) I have no talents, Im really not good at anything that I can make money from. My self esteem is horrible because I feel like a 16 year old with no work experience. I dropped out of school when I was 17, though I did go back and get my GED. Any advice on what I can do with my life and make a living? I really dont want to work at Mcdonalds.

If you have a degree in Early Childhood Education, then teach or go to work in a daycare.

My dad did nothing but farm until he was 43. The farm got too small to be profitible anymore, so he went to school. A little hard work, and he was graduating near the top of his class, and getting the job he wanted. He felt the same way you do about talents, but found that life experience is the best teacher anyone can have. I am proud of what he has done, and its the main reason I believe I can succeed in school myself (I've had a bit of a rough start in class at college). Go for whatever you want, and put in an effort. You may surprise yourself.

I'm a 42 year old mother of 5, and 2 have just left the "nest". I have always wanted to be home for my kids and therefore suffered in the way of expanding my career horizons, so I totally relate to that. I started with a company just over a year ago, based in the US that has just gone international. They are in their 6th year of business, debt-free and it has been the best career decision I have ever made. People come here from all backgrounds, no matter the education or lifestyle...everyone feels a part of the community. You shouldn't settle for less than you deserve, and you will definitely be able to improve your confidence level with the products that we market. I'm looking to work with professional-minded people who have a strong desire to change their current situation, whatever that may be. If you are truly serious about this, then feel free to contact me.

I know how you feel. I am a little younger but not by much. I walked into a great job. Market research. I started on the phone and just recruiting people to do focus groups but I now have been promoted to help with research and setting up the job. Very fast paced and very busy. I like it because it's something different everyday.
I was very scared and I found this used alot of multitasking (moms are great at that) some creativity whih if you are a teacher that plays into it too.
Try it!!!

well that isn't a great boat to be in.. but your in the same spot as my mother... but i moved out in my 20's... I found a web site that helps with personal growth... Coping.org... you should check it out! me and my mother just started doing this and it's free! i would work on your self esteem before getting a job it may help you!
i'm sure you have talents but your own self esteem and irrational beliefs are holding you back. please don;t take any of this the wrong way my mom is 50 something she has no income and has no friends and i love her with all my heart so i brought this coping.org thing up to her...
Hey ifyour willing we just started you can do some with us too...
my idea is this i can use improvement so the more people i have sharing the storys they choise to share then that can help me reconize it in my own live! Maybe you don't want to do this with me maybe your daughter will do this with you but if you feel that you don't want to do that with her e-mail me or contact me by clicking my name i would love to help and have a 3rd party to do this with..
sadly my mother doens't have internet but if you need a friend i have a great friend who loves things and is well in the same boat...
but my only other suggestion i to go get some more education go to a communitly college and see if you can get grants to help you out!
Radio sales are always hiring but you need thick skin and a bright peronality and i think you could do it!!! very interesting too the people alone are just a trip! I have been in radio for 8 years now it's great... sales are more Rewarding $$$ but hard and stressful.. but you never know when you get your foot in the door will you will end up in radio...
Well good luck
hope i help in one way or another!
Don't forget
Coping.org

I'm in the same boat at 31. I'm going to school for culinary arts and I can't find a job ANYWHERE. I'm considered either too good for the lower jobs or not good enough for the higher positions. I've been endlessly searching for work for 6 months. The only true offer I've gotten was for a mortgage company that wanted me to work 60+ hours/week plus an hour and a half drive, plus my kids, plus full-time school...you get the idea. I feel like I'm basically useless in the eyes of the working world. Maybe us older gals should get together and start our own company. heh.

I am sure that with your degree it would be very easy, and natural, to step into a postion in social work. As a police officer, I work with social workers on a regular basis and that is something that you could do that would utilize your training as well as give you a sense of fulfillment. There are also organizations that conduct "forensic interviews" to help children talk about and deal with sexual assaults, another skilled profession that law enforcement officers rely on. It is difficult, but it is such a necessary part of their healing and coping process. I wish you the best of luck and hope that you are able to utilize the training and experience you have with a new and exciting career that will give you personal satisfaction.

i don't have any talents? i bet you're wrong

i'm not really good at anything? i bet you're wrong again.

take a minute or two and think of things that you LIKE to do. who cares if you can make money or not, or if you think they're defined as talent or not. start with a list of the things in life that you do that you enjoy...that make you happy. then see what careers involve some of those things. make a list of your top 5 things that you would want...and make sure a career you investigate has at least 3 of them.

don't sell yourself short! everyone has something to offer this world. the question is what you want to offer?

Hi, if you have time, you can read this text and consider about that.

I have actually had some pretty nice results with this (you may want to check it out if you have time):

http://www.cheil.ws

Go there, view the video, and it explains it all from there.
I can walk you through the process step by step if needed just to make sure you are successful. (Please keep in mind; this is NOT a get rich quick scheme.).
In my opinion, the best thing about this is that it doesn’t require a high startup investment. (Considering you can start for free).
I definitely recommend test driving it.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me on aol email ( elkanahslave@aol.com ) or daum email ( dhkdshdp@hanmail.net ). I'd love to give you more details! Hope This Helps and Good Luck !

take a piece of paper out write down anything you love to do or talk about or know a lot about. then find out what BIG corporation is hiring for what you like to do. If you are anything like me I love to talk so go to work in sales with a base pay you can afford to live on. If you can't afford to live on the base pay then find government programs to help you get by until you can afford to live. Also, get involved with a church and start praying. It is not a nice world but, if you find a good church family and ask enough questions then you will find a good fit for you and your kids.
