If you wait until the movie comes out on DVD, you can buy it at Blockbuster. They sell DVD’s at 3 or 4 for $20. Also, Hollywood Video has a current deal of 5 for $20. It makes much more sense to buy the movie and return it if you don’t like it. If you spend $8 at a theater and don’t like the movie, no one will refund your money or offer you an exchange to see another movie.

I could really care less about the “around the water cooler” movie chat. As for the whole “movie theater experience”, I’d rather not experience it. There are loud people, sticky floors, cramped seats, and you pay too much to only see the movie once. The last time I went to Blockbuster (a couple weeks ago), 4 for $20 was for everything, not just $9.99 and under. Why pay $8 to see a movie when you can pay almost 1/2 that to see it an unlimited number of times?

Watching a movie is usually just to watch a movie. It is the whole atmosphere and spending time with your friends. Who wants to be cooped up inside his or her house all day?

Also, some movie-goers are just dedicated to certain movies and have to watch it as soon as it comes out. And most movie theaters have much better quality than home movies [unless you have spent tens of thousands of dollars to buy a good projector, good seating, good acoustic walls, good lighting/shading, and a good audio system].

Step 5
5. In this page, click on the file name one more time that appears next to Download

Step 6
6. The following download window will pop up. You need to click on Open button to proceed.

We aren't allowed (in Canada) to buy movies and then return them because of the all the dvd burning software you can buy.
Movies here are actually about 12$, people go so that they can have the full experience of the super grand screen, the sound, the smells, the popcorn and the getting out of the house factor.

The same could be said of owning a poster of a famous piece of artwork vs going to see it in a museum. You aren't going to see the brush strokes, the fine detail. You aren't able to go to a building that can be structurally unique in it's own right.

For some people it's not the cost, it's the experience.

Good question. You can also get movies from the library for free once they've been released on DVD. You might have to wait awhile though and you miss out on all the good talk around the water cooler when the movie is more current.

first off, it the 4 for 20 is only dvd's $9.99 or less. when dvds first come out, they're either 14.99 or 12.99 pre-viewed and you would actually have to wait quite some time b4 being able to purchase the dvd at your preferred cost.
also, it's the thrill of going the see the movie at the theater while its still new and for most the $8 (9.50 here in chicago) is worth it.

hope i helped!

Simple - atmosphere. I saw Grudge both in the theater and on DVD. There is a major difference to seeing it on the big screen, and seeing it at home. When you get that many people in a theater who are sharing the experience, it just amplifies the effect. Then again, when you get that many people into a theater who aren't into it - it becomes extremely evident (The Lady in the Water).

I only go to movies like Armageddon, or Star Wars or some really "big" screen production like Jurassic Park, where you want the creatures to go BOOM, and are BIG, in your face, not with tiny speakers, on a teeny screen, with house distractions around you.
You have to choose a great theater with a huge screen, LOUD speakers, BASS woofers in the floor, and steep slants in the floor, so that you arent looking at the back of someone's head !. But it is worth it. I then watch it a dozen times at home - after.

Sometimes you just have to see a movie on the big screen. It just doesn't have the same effect on a tv screen. Imagine the difference between Jurassic Park on tv and on a 20 foot screen.

I take my nephew and soon will take my other nephew and niece to the movies a lot. It is a good time for them and for me and is something we can share equally.

Likewise, I can take my little sister to the movies, to spend time with her. She has cerebral palsy and can't do a lot by herself. This gets her out of the house and doing something we can enjoy together.

It's a night out. You can go out with friends, family or a love one. It's a time when you can just have fun. Also, I don't know about you but I don't have a 100 in. screen at home with surround stero. In addition, you can discuss the movie with others as a HOT topic.

It is nice to have a night out every once in awhile. Plus going to the movies is a lot of fun. But I agree with you, I use netflix and only go to the movies once every few months.
