I taught for 46 years. I have accumulated a vast amount of knowledge which, now that I am retired, is going to waste. I taught English Poetry and Theatre literature of the seventeenth and eighteenth century.

That is a generous offer!

I am sure there will be plenty of people who can tap into your knowledge and experiences. Certainly here in Yahoo! Answers all kinds of homework questions (don't do it for them, lol) come up.

I'll be 50 in two months, so I'll be contacting you then.

And knowledge should not go to waste. Offer it to the world. Go to yahoo 360 or blogger.com and start writing opinion pieces. Go to yahoo groups and join in some with likeminded people.

I appreciate you wanting to remain active -- using the internet to increase the "world wide data base" is the key.

Need your help with what? Those over 50 are probably NOT in the market for English Poetry, etc. And I have a flash for you, the younger ones all want to be famous and write the Great American Novel, and one guy even wants to send in a bunch of love notes his wife wrote and have someone turn them into a book. When you tell them they are on the wrong track, they all become angry and assure you they are tomorrow's best selling authors. Don't waste your time. They are a lost cause. And as a postscript, some guy is so fighting mad at me (an editor and journalist with years of experience in the field) for giving him solid advice about the publishing world, he has gone off on a diatribe here on Yahoo. I don't think what these people who ask questions want is solid advice. They want someone to tell them that their little fantasy will come true - as in yes, you will go far and become a great writer, brilliant actor, wonderful singer, etc. - and that the world is just waiting for their work, no matter how unprofessional it might be, or how little they know about what they are doing! Thus, it is a total waste of time to answer them because all they do is argue and get angry if you don't out and out lie to them and tell them they will go far with no effort, a lousy and/or naive idea, and no experience. They don't want to hear about starting at the bottom and working their way up. No sir, they want to be rich and famous and if you don't baby sit them and tell them they will, they come unglued. Like I said, don't waste your time.

I'm sure anyone over 50, is pretty much already well-rounded. Maybe you should try to teach at a community college, or, volunteer your services at a Nursing Home, I'm sure the residents would be delighted, it would be intellectually stimulating for them.
