I have found out that I have to pay a full month's rent on my new apartment, even though I moved in two weeks into the month. The leasor calls this a "prorate". This was never explained before the contract was signed. Is this legal? Is the contract still valid?

Your lessor is telling something to you which you should be telling to him. "Prorate" means - to divide proportionately, especially by day. So in the absence of any written agreement with respect to prorate, you are bound only to pay for the days you have been in the aprtment and not on a monthly basis. You must invoke "prorate" in this matter.

Prorate means you will pay the months rent divided by number of days there are left in the month. Example $930 per day on a 31 day month is $30 per day. so if you move in 15 days early then you owe $450.
